AT recently announced that it expects a “basic station and platforms” to be operational at the new Parnell train station site from mid-2017.  Located at the foot of Cheshire Street, which runs parallel to the train line towards the bottom of Parnell Road, the first stage of development will include the relocation and refurbishment of the former Newmarket train station building as well as ‘limited pedestrian and vehicle access from Cheshire Street’.

While the AT announcement states that the new station will improve public transport access to the Domain, it is unclear whether passengers will be able to alight and easily head into the Domain, rather than towards Parnell.

For further information, see the AT news site , which includes drawings of the project, and a history of the delays associated with it at the following Transport Blog page.
